All videos should be submitted on D2L prior to the beginning of class for Assignment 2. After videos are collected, we will begin reviewing and discussing the work. We should focus our attention on the technical concerns we were addressing:
In a visual effects and post-production work flow, rotoscoping is an important technical skill. The video assignment this week focuses on using this skill. But to help introduce rotoscoping, there will be a demonstration given. The demo will include how these processes are done in both Premiere and After Effects. Both tools can be used and have different possibilities although the process is generally the same. Students may choose to focus on using whichever tool they are more comfortable with for rotoscoping.
Some additional processes will be demonstrated related to post-production. Keyframing is a large part of working with rotoscoping, but is a fundamental animation skill. It will be introduced with a little more depth in regards to basic animation workflow in Premeire.
This week's homework tutorial is directly related to the demonstrations given in class. It presents a work flow for using rotoscoping and masking to create a "time freeze" effect. It demonstrations the use of After Effects for rotoscoping... but more than specific details, we are interested in the process as a whole. So feel free to adapt and experiment using Premiere or AE.
Assignment 3 is our compositing video assignment and it relates to our demonstration and tutorial for the week. As with other assignments, you are welcome to work together but each person needs to submit their own video. You will need to shoot video and because our process creates a composite image, it is imperative to use a tripod for stable and consistent shots. In addition, sound effects may be added to your video and some related recommendations will be given in class.
